Dynamics 365 Business Central is part of the Microsoft Business Applications suite of products, which also includes Microsoft Dynamics CRM and ERP. The product started in Denmark as Navision Software in 1983 and was renamed to Dynamics NAV in 2000. In 2018, Microsoft rebranded the product again and named it Dynamics 365 Business Central. As a longtime leader in small business management software, this solution has grown over time to be more than accounting software; it can handle many other processes that businesses use to operate day-to-day.

The story of Navision began in Denmark in 1983, when PC & C decided to develop a business solution for their own internal use. They were specifically looking for a way to manage their cash flow and financial processes more efficiently. They worked with a local programmer to develop the system, and once it was ready, they named it PC&C Accounting System.
In 1985, PC&C decided to take their solution and turn it into a product that could be sold to other companies in Denmark. They renamed their product Navision, which means “navigation” in Danish. That same year, the company created Navision Software A/S and made Jesper Balser its CEO.
